Twitter Outraged As Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammed Siraj Got Racially Abused In Sydney Test Match

Cricket is said to be a gentlemen game and the onus is not just on the players but the fans and the spectators as well to ensure that the spirit of the game is not violated. However, there are times when we have seen that the players or fans have acted in such a manner which has spoiled the name of the game.

The ongoing India-Australia four match test series has also been marred by a controversy as two Indian cricketers have been racially abused while they were fielding during the Australian innings. On the third day of the third test match which is being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj informed their skipper Ajinkya Rahane that they have been racially abused by the spectators. This incident happened just few minutes before the end of the day three and Indian skipper along with senior players had a long chat with the on-field umpires.

The Indian team management was quite displeased with this incident and has lodged a formal complaint with the Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council has not only condemned the incident but also asked for a report from CA.

Sean Carroll, who heads the Security and Integrity wing of CA also condemned the incident on behalf of CA and said that such discriminatory behavior won’t be tolerated in Australian cricket and assured strict action against those who are responsible for such an unfortunate incident.

However, the same thing happened on the fourth day again and Mohammed Siraj was racially abused again by some people in the crowd. This incident took place when Siraj was fielding at the fine leg and he informed his skipper Rahane about it who then had a talk with the on-field umpire and the game was stopped for some time. Mohammed Siraj also pointed out the people who were using abusive and racial slur and New South Wales Police went into the stands and made six people leave the stadium.

Here is the video of the incident:

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also reacted on this incident as he said that he has also faced pathetic situation many times and strict action should be taken in this case. Virat Kohli wrote in his two tweets,

Racial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. Having gone through many incidents of really pathetic things said on the boundary Iines, this is the absolute peak of rowdy behaviour. It’s sad to see this happen on the field. The incident needs to be looked at with absolute urgency and seriousness and strict action against the offenders should set things straight for once.”

Many people including the former cricketers, people from cricket fraternity and fans took to Twitter to express their annoyance and anger:

There were some fans who were of the opinion that Virat Kohli would have given such people a proper answer and they were missing Kohli badly so they made some memes keeping him in mind as well.

As far as the test match is concerned, India needs to score 309 runs to win the test match. Indian batsmen will need to bat very well and a lot will depend on the skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara now. Both the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are back in pavilion while Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant are injured because of which chances of India winning the match seems low but we should hope for the best.

What is your take in regard to this matter, do let us know.
