6 Times Dhoni Proved That He Is The Smartest Cricketer 

MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the most successful skippers of the Indian cricket team. He is the only skipper who has won the three ICC trophies and there is no denying the fact that he is also one of the smartest cricketers ever played for India.

Here are 6 instances when Dhoni proved that he is the smartest of all:

Indian team practiced bowl-out:

2007 ICC T20 World Cup was the first tournament which was won by the Indian team under Dhoni’s leadership. India not only defeated Pakistan in finals but also in a group stage match. However that group stage match went into bowl-out in which Indians were more successful than Pakistanis. Dhoni once revealed that the Indian team actually practiced bowl-out before the match which helped them in winning the match.

Removing the wicket-keeping gloves on final ball:

In the 2016 T20 World Cup, in one of the matches, Bangladesh needed only 2 runs on the last ball of the innings to win against India. Mahi removed his gloves for the last ball as without gloves he could react faster. The batsman missed the ball but did try to run in order to tie the match. However, Dhoni was ready for it and he defeated Mustafizur Rahman in running fast and reached to the wicket before him. As a result, India won the match, thanks to Dhoni’s smartness.

IPL 2010 final:

MSD has been with Chennai Super Kings since the start of IPL in 2008. The team has won IPL trophy three times under his captaincy. In 2010 finals when CSK was hoping to win the IPL first time and they were playing the finals against Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard stood like a rock between them and the trophy. However, Dhoni observed something about Pollard’s style of batting and he placed a fielder on a particular spot. Dhoni’s strategy worked and Pollard gave a catch to that fielder.

MS Dhoni schooling Khaleel Ahmed:

MS Dhoni is a very alert cricketer and he keeps an eye over everything that is happening around him. During the Australian tour in 2019, in one of the ODIs, Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik were batting. Yuzvendra Chahal and Khaleel Ahmed came on the ground with drinks and Khaleel Ahmed made the mistake of walking on the pitch. This was noticed by Dhoni and he immediately schooled the youngster that he may have harmed the pitch.

Dhoni arranging field for Bangladesh:

Dhoni is really a cool guy and he proved it once again in a warm up match against Bangladesh just before the 2019 ICC World Cup. Mahi was batting and suddenly to everyone’s surprise, he asked the bowler to make changes in field placements as per his instructions. What was more shocking was the fact that the Bangladeshi players happily obeyed Mahi.

Bowl-out in 2007 T20 World Cup

Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa once narrated an incident which proved that Dhoni is the smartest of all. Robin talked about the group stage match of T20 World Cup 2007 in which India clashed with Pakistan and match went into bowl-out. Robin said that Dhoni did one thing very smart as he sat on his knees exactly behind the wickets. This helped the bowlers in targeting the stumps while the Pakistani bowler stood at the usual position of the wicketkeeper.
