5 IPL Records Of MS Dhoni Many People Don’t Know About

MS Dhoni will always be remembered as one of the most successful skippers of Indian team. What will make him stand apart from other skippers is his cool and calm attitude. Dhoni may have been out of cricketing circuits for quite a long time now. However, he is still one of the most talked about cricketers of the present times. His fans were hoping to see him playing in the IPL 2020 but the league is called-off due to coronavirus.

In IPL, Dhoni leads Chennai Super Kings and the team has won IPL trophy 3 times under his captaincy. Let us tell you about some IPL records of MS Dhoni about which not many people know:

1. No stumping in IPL 2008:

IPL started in 2008 and Mahi who is known for carrying out stumping at the lightening speed was not able to do even one stumping in the inaugural edition. The level of Dhoni as a wicketkeeper can be understood by the fact that he has 123 stumpings in ODI, 38 in test matches and 34 in T20 matches. Dhoni registered his first stumping in the second match of IPL 2019. At that time, he stumped Rohit Uthappa on the bowling of Muttiah Muralitharan.

2. Never been a part of a tied match:

MS Dhoni has played 190 (160 for CSK & 30 for RPS) matches in IPL. However, he has never been a part of any tied match in IPL. CSK is a part of one tied match but that was under the captaincy of Suresh Raina who has played 193 matches in IPL. This match was played in IPL 2010 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

3. Playing as specialist batsman:

If we talk about Dhoni’s international career, he has not played a single match in which he has played as a specialist batsman, though he may not have kept wickets due to injury. However in IPL, he has played total 8 matches in IPL 2008 and IPL 2009 in which Parthiv Patel did the wicketkeeping. The IPL 2009 semi-final match played against RCB was the last IPL match in which Dhoni didn’t wear wicketkeeping gloves.

4. Promoting himself up the order at number 3:

MS Dhoni has mostly batted at number 5 or lower down the order, though sometimes he has batted at number 4 as per the demand of the situation. But do you know that Dhoni has batted at the number 3 position as well? He has batted at number 3 position 7 times in three seasons (2008, 2009 and 2010). Nevertheless, he has never come at the 3rd position since the 2011 edition.

5. Most number of fifties at the strike rate of more than 200 among the Indians

MS Dhoni has crossed the 50-mark 23 times in IPL and out of these, 8 times his strike rate was more than 200. Among the Indians, no other batsmen could surpass Dhoni in this regard. While Yusuf Pathan has scored six fifties at the strike rate of 200 or more, Virender Sehwag and Rishabh Pant followed him with 5 such scores.
