4 IPL Records Made By Indian Skipper Virat Kohli That Not Many People Know About

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen of the all times. The Indian skipper has broke many records till date not just at the international level but he is also in the Indian Premier League in which he leads the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Let us tell you about some lesser known IPL records of Virat Kohli:

1. The only cricketer to score 5000 runs in IPL on Indian soil:

At present, Virat Kohli is the top scorer in the IPL with 5412 runs but the first player to reach the mark of 5000 was Suresh Raina. The left-handed batsman is at the second spot with 5368 runs after Kohli. However, Virat Kohli is the only cricketer who has scored 5000 runs in IPL on Indian soil. He has played 156 IPL matches in the country and has scored 5061 runs till date. Suresh Raina has scored 4835 runs in the IPL matches played on the Indian soil.

2. Scored a fifty when no other batsmen of his team touched double digits:

RCB is one of the strongest IPL teams on paper but many times their performances have been disappointing. In IPL 2017, RCB was playing their 10th match against Rising Pune Supergiant and they were in a dire need of a victory as in the nine matches played earlier, they had won only two. RCB bowlers bowled pretty well and RPS was able to score only 157 in 20 overs despite the fact that they had seven wickets in hand. RCB’s batting performance was very bad as only Virat managed to put some fight. Talking about all other batsmen, they were not even able to touch double digit. Virat scored 55 runs (4 fours, 1 six) for which he played 48 balls, RCB was all out at 96 runs.

3. Youngest captain to lead the team:

Virat Kohil has been with RCB since the inaugural season of IPL which took place in 2008 and he was handed over the captaincy in 2013. But he also led the team in 2012 in some matches after the then RCB skipper Daniel Vettori got injured. Nevertheless, Virat made his captaincy debut in 2011 when he led the team against Rajasthan Royals as Vettori suffered a knee-injury.

4. Only batsmen to hit two sixes on the first two balls of innings:

In IPL 2019, RCB needed to win a match against RR if they wanted to remain in competition. But rain spoiled the game and the match was cut short to 5-5 overs only. Virat knew the importance of scoring fast and he sent RR’s Varun Aaron for two consecutive sixes on the first two balls and became the only batsman to do so in IPL.
