Chewing gum can play a good role in protecting our teeth from decay and gingivitis especially if we chew sugar-free gum. It not only get rids of the bacteria but it also clean the teeth by removing the food leftovers and reduce the acid levels with the help of extra saliva which is produced due to the chewing process. What makes chewing gum more advisable is the fact that it makes the teeth strong by adding more phosphate and calcium.
However, the gum can affect our teeth in an adverse manner if it contains sugar. While it can decay the tooth, there can be plaque buildup on the teeth as the bacteria which is mostly found in oral cavity will digest the sugar before it travels to the stomach.
7. The jaw problems:
Chewing gum continuously for good amount of time may result in pain in jaw muscles and joints. The person will experience severe pain while speaking, laughing and eating specially and this pain can also affect the neck and shoulders in an adverse manner. It is highly advisable not to chew gum if you are very stressed because there are times when a person clenches his teeth unknowingly or unintentionally.
