Salman Khan’s 10 Biggest Superhits That Are Actually Remakes Of South Movies

Salman Khan is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of Bollywood but even his ardent fans might not be aware of the fact that many of his superhit movies are remakes of southern flicks. Here is the list of 10 such films:

1. Wanted (2009):

Wanted was directed by Prabhudeva and other than Salman Khan, it also starred Ayesha Takia, Prakash Raj and Vinod Khanna in important roles. The film was a remake of 2006 released Mahesh Babu starrer Pokiri that was directed by Puri Jagannadh. Pokiri has been remade in Tamil and Kannada as well.

2. Kick (2014):

The superhit movie of Salman Khan, Kick was a remake of 2009 released Telugu movie of the same name which starred Ravi Teja and Ileana D’Cruz in the lead roles. Ileana was considered for the female lead in the Hindi version too but the role ultimately went to Jacqueline Fernandez. In the Hindi version, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Randeep Hooda also played important roles and Sajid Nadiadwala was the producer and director of the movie.

3. Tere Naam (2003):

Actress Bhumika Chawla was already a very well known name in the southern movie industry when she debuted in Bollywood with Tere Naam. Salman Khan played the role of Radhe Mohan in Satish Kaushik directed flick and it is considered as one of his best acting performances ever. The movie was a remake of Tamil film Sethu (1999) which was directed by Bala. It was based on the real life story of Bala’s friend. A sequel to Tere Naam is also on the cards and Satish Kaushik confirmed it last year.

4. Judwaa (1997):

This was the first movie in which Salman Khan played double role for the first time and the film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year. The film was directed by David Dhawan and the female leads were played by Karisma Kapoor and popular southern actress Rambha. Judwaa was a remake of Akkineni Nagarjuna and Soundarya starrer Hello Brother (1994) which was also a remake of a Jackie Chan starrer Twin Dragons.

5. Biwi No. 1 (1999):

For this movie, David Dhawan and Salman Khan came together for the second time after Judwaa. The film was a blockbuster on box-office and Sushmita Sen also won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting actress. Biwi No. 1 was the remake of Kamal Haasan starrer Tamil movie Sathi Leelavathi (1995) which was also a big hit.

6. No Entry (2005):

Not many people know but the makers faced difficulty in releasing this flick as they were not getting distributers. The release got delayed but the movie gave big shock to everyone when this Aneez Bazmee directed multi-starrer became a huge hit on the box-office. No Entry was the remake of a Tamil movie Charlie Chaplin (2002) which has also been remade in Telugu, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam.

7. Ready (2011):

This Salman Khan and Asin starrer went on to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark on the box-office and was the second highest grossing movie of the year. The song from the movie Dhinka Chika was loved by audiences and had been on the lips of music lovers for a long time. It is also being said that makers are working on Ready’s sequel but Asin won’t be a part of that. This Salman Khan film was a remake of a Telugu movie of the same name which got released in 2008 and starred Ram and Genelia D’souza in lead roles.

8. Bodyguard (2011):

Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan played lead roles in this movie which broke many records on the box-office. It also gave Malayalam movie director Siddique a big break in Bollywood. This film was a remake of 2010 released Malayalam flick of the same name which was directed by Siddique only and starred Dileep and Nayanthara in lead roles.

9. Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega… (2000):

Raj Kanwar directed movie also starred Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles and was a superhit at the box-office. HDJPK was a remake of Mohanlal, Sukanya and Pooja Batra starrer Malayalam movie Chandralekha (1997) which was directed by Priyadarshan.

10. Jai Ho (2014):

The film was directed by Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan and was a hit at the box-office despite not getting good reviews by critics. Jai Ho was the remake of 2006 released Telugu movie Stallin which starred Chiranjeevi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles.  Stallin was also inspired by an American movie Pay It Forward.
